Name of Restaurant: Lewis & Clark’s an American Restaurant & Public House
Location of Restaurant: 217 S Main St.; St Charles, MO
Date of Visit: April 21, 2007

Lewis & Clark's From the very start, I was fascinated by the decor of the restaurant. It is three floors, and, I believe, the kitchen is on the second floor. Our table, though I felt we were crammed into a corner, had a nice view of historic St. Charles and a peek of the Missouri River.

I ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich and my husband the Philly cheese steak. I guess I should have asked for some mayonnaise or something because the sandwich was very dry. It is served with a cheesy-tasting sauce that I’d never heard of, however, and it was delicious, but because I am very sensitive to lactose, I was afraid to eat very much. Of course, I have since found out that the sauce was hollandaise and is made of butter, lemon juice, and eggs, mostly. Had I paid enough attention to the menu and then asked what it was, I probably could and would have eaten more of it. Having said this, I would be willing to give it a second try. My husband, also, loved his sandwich and had no complaints whatsoever about it.

Overall, there is not much to say about this visit other than we had a wonderful, enjoyable time in a restaurant with friends and good food. I’d go back again!

China Buffet; Perryville, MO

Name of Restaurant: China Buffet
Location of Restaurant: Perryville, MO – Lake Drive (outter road West of Highway 55)
Date of Visit: Various

Yummy China Buffet hasn’t been open all that long. In fact, the tall sign still reads the name of the restaurant that was in the building previoiusly. However, the inside of the restaurant has been rennovated and the space maximized. One thing I typically find is that Chinese restaurants tend to not allow for each table to have much room. However, this China Buffet gives the diner plenty of room, and every time I’ve visited, the restaurant has been very clean both in dining areas, around the food, and the bathrooms.

The food is delicious, even when visiting on a weekday at 2:30pm. It’s all hot and fresh, not stale as tends to happen to some buffet restaurants during their slow times. My favorite dish is what they have labeled as “Japanese Chicken.” It does disappoint me, though, that this is only served during the dinner period and not during lunchtime. Their crab ragoon is also extra delicious and they do not “skimp” on the insides.

Hey, gimme that fortune cookie! The staff is also always friendly and the women don’t seem to mind the flirting of my three-year-old one bit. He loves visiting the restaurant, too, he always gets so much attention.

Add all of these things to the reasonable prices and you have one fabulous Chinese restaurant! I admit, it’s not my absolute absolulte favorite Chinese place, but it’s most definitely my favorite place within a half an hour of my home, and I will most assuredly continue to visit when I’m in Perryville. I hope they’re around for a long time!

Sirros; Ste. Genevieve, MO

Name of Restaurant: Sirros
Location of Restaurant: Merchant St., Ste. Genevieve, MO
Date of Visit: August 2, 2006

When first entering Sirros, I knew it was going to be another tight fit. The main room is not large at all, there were only about seven tables for groups of four or less. I am told they have another room for seating but it must have been reserved or something, because we never saw evidence of that. During the course of the meal, I was quite uncomfortable, feeling as if I was sitting out in the middle of the room (my chair was directed out this way).

Water Over Road Orris

We were not sitting very long at all when the waitress came for our drink order – this was very nice. She brought us the drinks but we weren’t yet ready to order. By her third trip, we were. My husband and I both ordered the Super Sirro Burger, only he got cole slaw instead of fries and half an order of onion rings. I settled for the french fries. For our toddler, we ordered a kid’s chicken strip meal with fries.

It seemed like we waited a long time for our food. Our son started to get very grumpy and kept trying to leave until another waitress brought him a coloring sheet and three crayons. This distracted him for all of five minutes.

Super Sirro Burger When our food finally arrived, I was famished. But it was all very much worth the wait. Our burgers were not some processed-crap-soy-meat, they were real hamburger – and fresh, too. And the french fries were marvelous, even our son ate most of his. I tried his chicken, as well, it was also very fresh and not very processed. The breading on it was light, it almost seemed as if there wasn’t any – it was 97% chicken. And as for the onion rings? Apparently a half an order at Sirros equals about five orders at other places. There were so many onion rings – very delicious onion rings (says the person who does not like onion very much) – that my husband had to get a to-go box for them.

Overall, it was a good experience. My only complaint would be the lack of room and the general layout of the tables, but, again, I suppose they usually have more room than they do on the night we visited.
