Name of Restaurant: Old Brick House
Location of Restaurant: 90 S. 3rd Street, Ste. Genevieve, MO
Date of Visit: April 30, 2006
I’ve lived here for a while but have never had the chance to visit the Old Brick House until just recently. We went for a Sunday buffet lunch. The front part of the restaurant was closed and we were seated in the back, there were only two other tables occupied and the far section of that area was also closed.
The buffet was filled with the likes of fried chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, liver dumplings, and more country foods. The food was wonderful. It was hot and fresh, not like some buffets where they only fill the food when the other stuff has become so old it’s no longer recognizable. On more than one occassion, an employee brought out fresh food before it was required.
The only thing I would have to complain about was that one employee started vacuuming near our table while we and several other tables were still eating. I was very glad, however, that my two-year-old (afraid of vacuums) did not cry. It turned out later that she was new, so we forgave her. :)
Overall, we had a nice, quiet, and delicious meal and will definitly go back again.

Sounds like it’s worth a stopover. My wife and I might be down that way soon to visit Pickle Springs trail. It would be nice to have some place decent to go eat after that hefty 2 mile walk.
Thanks for the review.
Okay, so we went on Sunday to the Old Brick House, and I hate to say we were disappointed.
Now, to be fair, the food we ate was pretty good. It was the mostly the lack of service, and lack of menu choices we didn’t find appealing.
I was the only one comfortable enough with the buffett to choose that. My wife, son, and his friend chose off the menu. The limited choices, and the overpricing were hard to get around. Now maybe the menu varies, but the menus they gave us had only about 7 entries to choose from. The cheapest was around $8.
The service we received, though courteous, was all but nonexistent. A waitress visited our table twice during our meal. One of those times was to bring the ticket.
On the upside, this is one of the few restaurants were all dishes were served hot, well prepared, and tasty. They also provided us our own water pitcher, something we frequently ask for. The restuarant was clean, and the wait staff were neat, and well groomed. Lighting was more than adequate.
Overall, we’d have to give it a second try at perhaps a different time of day.
Hmmm… you know, I don’t even think we looked at a menu when we went. The husband had said specifically he’d like to go for Sunday buffet, so I think we just ordered some drinks and said we’d take the buffet.
I work at the Old Brick House! We are very understaffed! The manager just doesn’t want to fork out the money to put more waitresses on the floor! I work on Sat. mornings, and I am usually the only waitress, but we have a buffet then, and we also have a larger soup and sandwich menu. On Sundays our special is Buffet, so we push that instead of the menu!
As someone who has grown up with relatives in Ste Gen, going there for all the holidays, etc, I must say that the old brick is the best. The REASON you go to the old brick is to eat the buffet, amazing fried chicken and some other great stuff. I enjoy it because you don’t have someone pestering you the whole time. We go in, order drinks, and start eating. I’ve always had someone just come by and fill up drinks as needbe. The only thing is be careful, on Fridays the buffet has fish instead of chicken (is this only during Lent, I can’t remember?). You wanna go for the chicken!
I LIVE IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS AND I HAVE BEEN HERE ONCE AND AT THE TIME I WENT IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER ATE NEXT TO HOME COOKED AND I AM TRYING TO PLAN A TRIP JUST TO go EAT THERE
I DO ALOT OF WORK THERE.ROSIE IS A SWEETHEART,THE FOOD IS ALWAYS GOOD,HOSPITALITY IS DOWNHOME,AND THE MEALS ARE SOMETIMES FREE WHEN I AM WORKING THERE.
