Name of Restaurant: Country Kitchen
Location of Restaurant: 17033 New Bremen Rd, Ste. Genevieve, MO (map)
Date of Visit: Various
We have been to the Country Kitchen several times. We have been both several times when it was still The Family Inn and several times since it became the Country Kitchen. None of those times have we been exceptionally pleased or satisfied.
The first thing that strikes me as weird doesn’t have so much to do with the restaurant itself but the sign out front. Notice the photo, the sign reads:
“Family”
Dining
Sure, I may just be being picky, but having the word “family” in quotes like that insinuates to me that “we’d like you to think it’s family dining, but it’s really not.” I guess the sign is just a warning of things to come as it often seems that the Country Kitchen (CK) does not really care to make their customers or even employees completely happy.
Of the four times I have been to CK, the service has ranged from extremely slow to just plain horrible. It’s not that the waitresses aren’t friendly, its that our food is always late at arriving and drinks are not refilled quickly or often enough.
Now, the food is good, I’ll give them that much. I had an omelete once that was absolutely appetizing, very tasty and fulfilling. However, one of the times we visited, I was looking forward to another omelete only to be told that they only had buffet available due to some undefined reason. Turned out there was some problem with the cooks. The food in the buffet that time was few and far between, and what was available had been sitting for quite some time. Any other time, you get what you might expect to at a breakfast buffet.
Well, CK is not a bad restaurant, it is just that each time we’ve been, there has been some aspect of the experience that was not good, always a B or less. We have yet to have a really good experience ourselves.
Final Rating: 3 Star(s)

I’m sorry to hear that you had a bad experience at a Country Kitchen. My wife and I have always had at least decent quality and service at other restaurants in their chain. We’ve eaten at more than a few it seems. :)
We ate there during a very brief visit a few years ago and had the buffet breakfast. It was nothing to write home about but was hot and had all the usual suspects.
Our family has a rule though, three strikes in a row, you go on the blacklist. Longest blacklist member ever – Denny’s. Back on blacklist again after two more bad visits in a row after coming off the blacklist.
I’ve eaten here once. One word…awful. I think the food came out of a box. I prefer the old Family Inn, which wasn’t great, unless it was about 2:00 in the morning. My wife and I actually ate there with some friends about that time on our wedding night. Very romantic! :)
